ADHAM FARAMAWY, Artist

Adham graduated from the Slade School of Art in 2004 and predominantly makes video work, although his practice is broad and further encompasses drawing, print, performance, sculpture and sound. Adham is interested in story telling (he looks at narrative, allegory, myth, esoteric science and conspiracy theories). He is interested in how these ideologies are formed and how information is disseminated. One outlet for Adhams work takes the form of URA Zine; this is an ongoing collaborative project and is available from the ICA, Donlon Books and Rough Trade. Adham and his vids are definitely worth watching!

Intrepid, Sea, Air and Space Museum

The Intrepid, Sea, Air and Space Museum features aircraft carrier USS Intrepid, the destroyer USS Edson, submarine USS Growler and over 25 aircraft including Concord!

All of the above proved to be fascinating viewing. I found the experience of visiting an actual battle ship interesting as a part-time pacifist! Although partial to the odd scrape, I am certainly not pro war, and the fact that a large proportion of mankind seems to believe that an army is a necessity, or the fact that mankind has created a situation where an army appears to be a necessity and war a solution to a problem truly disturbs me. I was interested in how living in such a confined space would affect one mentally, effect friendships and relationships. Visiting the centre gave me a small insight into these thoughts and queries. The space was oppressive amongst its functionality and meticulous order, the equipment robust and environment manly.

Between Spaces

I loved the brutal concrete architectural structure of P.S.1 and its surrounding sculpture garden. Inside the exhibition space, the decor offered a rawness and simplicity that complimented the contemporary works on show. My personal favourites were Roni Horns Untitled (Yes) (2000) installation and Mathew Barney’s video works. I’d thoroughly recommend P.S.1 to anyone who interested in the arts, and the cafĂ© was good too!
